Goodbye Cold Winter!
SAY GOODBYE COLD WINTER –IT’S TIME TO BRING ON THE HEAT!
Announcing three of the ten featured headliners and a new Center Stage sponsor at the Rochester Lilac Festival
The Rochester Lilac festival is beckoning Mother Nature to bring on the heat with the announcement of CarMax as a presenting sponsor of the Lilac Center Stage, and the release of three headline concerts for the 116th edition, May 9 – May 18, 2014.
“This year, the most important headliner to pay attention to at Center Stage is CarMax” said festival organizer Jeff Springut. “It makes an enormous difference to the kind of talent we are able to present when we have a partner who gets it and steps up like CarMax has.”
Richmond, VA based CarMax is the nation’s largest retailer of used cars. The company’s first store in New York state officially opened in Rochester, N.Y. on March 12, 2014. The store, located at 3600 West Henrietta Road offers low, no haggle prices, a broad selection of CarMax Quality Certified used cars, and superior customer service.
"When we come into a market, we want to support the community and do the right things” said Steven Kesner, Location General Manager of CarMax Rochester, We are thrilled to be a part of the Rochester Lilac Festival and proud to support a world class event.”
Confirmed featured concerts announced today include:
• Rusted Root; Thursday, May 15th With eight albums, over three million records sold worldwide and iconic music featured in films such as Ice Age, Twister, and Matilda, it’s no wonder Rusted Root’s 2013 performance shattered attendance records at the Festival. The live show is a perfect combination of musical intuition, freedom, and virtuosity that leaves an undeniable imprint on all who experience it.
• The Original Wailers; Saturday, May 17th Carrying the torch passed on by Bob Marley himself, The Original Wailers bring the magic and intensity of their powerful, 2013 Grammy nominated 10-piece band together in honor of the history and integrity of Bob’s music. Featuring original guitarist Al Anderson and original keyboardist and background singer Tyrone Downie alongside a group of handpicked musicians; The Original Wailers infuse the spirit of Marley with their renditions of his iconic tunes.
• Eddie Money; Sunday, May 18th Since bursting onto the scene with his blue-collar brand of Rock n Roll in 1977, Eddie Money has proven to be a performer with a sound that transcends generations. His self-titled debut album went double platinum and hits like “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise” remain in hot demand today. In 1986, Money released Can’t Hold Back, which featured the classic Grammy-Nominated duet with Ronnie Spector “Take Me Home Tonight”.
The remaining ten-day concert lineup and full schedule of events will be released on Monday, April 7th during a 10:00am press conference at the Olmsted Lodge; Monroe County Parks Office Building. For more information visit LilacFestival.com.

San Francisco Meets New Orleans
Peace, love, and soul come together as Grateful Dead alumni, Bill Kreutzmann joins with George Porter on the stage at Party In The Park Thursday, August 2.
7 Walkers is an electrifying hybrid of classic Bay Area rock and New Orleans funk formed by Bill Kreutzmann, former Grateful Dead drummer who never missed a gig in the Dead’s 30-years together, and guitarist/vocalist Papa Mali. They recruited legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter Jr. and multi-instrumentalist Matt Hubbard to joins as well. A majority of the songs on 7 Walkers' self-titled debut album, released in 2010, was co-penned by Papa Mali and longtime Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. They band calls the album an "an open love letter to the city of New Orleans.” Among the highlights is track "King Cotton Blues," which features Willie Nelson guesting on vocal and guitar. More Info

Big Rib Fest 2012 Musical Lineup Announced
The Big Rib BBQ & Blues Fest is set to take over the Highland Park Festival Site July 12-15, 2012
The Festival will celebrate its fifth edition with a tribute that pays homage to the flavors of American cuisine and the soul of American music
The famous Frederick Law Olmsted designed Highland Park in Rochester, NY will frame the backdrop for the biggest-and tastiest Rib Festival in Upstate New York. For four BIG days, July 12 through July 15, 2012, barbecue fans will once again have an opportunity to sample wildly different versions of items they might have thought were always made the same. Whether it’s a saucy Kansas City style rib, a Memphis dry rub or the big flavor from deep in the heart of Texas - this festival proves that no two barbeque flavors are created equal. Serving every day from 11:30am through 10:00pm (9:00pm on Sunday), the 2012 Festival will feature the secret recipes and unique preparation styles of five nationally renowned Rib Masters –Porky ‘N’ Beans, Willingham’s World Champion Bar-B-Que, Texas Pit BBQ, Gator BBQ and Unkl Moe's BBQ. Alongside the fantastic food is a musical lineup that pays homage to the impact of blues on American music.
“The Blues are not only the most American of art forms, but the fundamental inspiration for some of the most important artists of our generation,” Artistic Director and Festival Producer Jeff Springut said.
“Stylistically, this year’s lineup represents all the various flavors of the Blues, from the Texas guitar and harp driven Blues of Kim Wilson and The Fabulous Thunderbirds to the Kansas City boogie woogie sounds of Kelley Hunt, to gritty Chicago Blues with Shemekia Copeland. We’re planning a fifth anniversary celebration that samples every genre of Blues music.”
The full four day line-up features a roster of nationally and internationally recognized artists including: The Fabulous Thunderbirds featuring Kim Wilson, Shemekia Copeland, Carolyn Wonderland, Kelley Hunt, Ana Popovic, Dark Star Orchestra, Brother Joscephus and the Love Revival Revolution Orchestra, Joe Beard and the Blues Union, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, The Voices of Clouds, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, JD McPherson, Oli Brown Band, John Cole Blues Band, Steve Grills and the Roadmasters, Funky Blu Roots, Fred Vine and Deborah Magone.
Hours for the Big Rib BBQ & Blues Fest are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 12-15 11:30am to 10:00pm, and Sunday, July 15, 11:30am to 9:00pm. (August 6, 2011 – Rochester, NY) Visitors to this weekend’s Chrysler Park Ave Summer Art Fest are encouraged to heed temporary parking signs posted on side streets and to take advantage of shuttle buses and additional parking options that will be available this year. Residents and merchants from the Park Avenue neighborhood have placed hundreds of temporary parking signs along side streets in preparation for the 35th annual festival, which will take place on August 6 and 7. Congrats to Week #1 RocStar Rivalry Winners
Now entering their fifth year, The Filthy McNastys continue to deliver their unmistakable sound to enthusiastic crowds across New York State. With a new rhythm section and a new album in the works, The Filthy McNastys take to the road in summer, 2011 to show the rest of the country what has made them upstate NY’s premiere original blues band. A truly original band, it wasn’t hard for The Filthy McNastys to stand out amongst the "Emo" bands and cover acts dominating the local music scene. Soon, The Filthy McNastys were releasing their first album --2009’s "Last Stand"-- and could be found opening for big names, packing large halls and setting festival stages ablaze with their fiery brand of rock and blues.
Connecting with crowds of all ages and bringing everyone to the dance floor are priorities for these boys. The blue-collar appeal and groove-heavy nature of songs such as "Hell Camino" and "Honey On Tap" signal The Filthy McNastys’ arrival. Troy L. Smith of Insider Magazine says The Filthy McNastys "blend the simplicities of raw folk and the sexiness of 60’s blues-rock with relative ease…"
